I went up to hang out with the children Saturday morning but they were eating breakfast – for them it’s more like the first meal of the day—another meal later if there’s money for food. The little gasons, Gerald and Pugy, came running over but were called back to finish their meal. But I had a chance to see what they were eating, it was a single piece of plain thick bread in one hand, a […]
Bon jour from Lynn in Pignon, Haiti! I have been here 2 nights now and my heart and brain are jammed with things to share. The photo above is the reason I come to Pignon. I felt immediately at home with these beautiful timoun (children). There are many new faces – actually 16 new children since I was last here a year ago August. There are now 43. actually, as of last night, there may […]
2013 was another amazing year for Loving Haiti! Thank YOU for your generous hearts, support and encouragement. As you may remember, Loving Haiti is focused on Relief, Rehabilitation and Development. 2013 was a year in which we were able to move from primarily Relief (directly providing aid) into Rehabilitation (partnering and working with the local Haitians). We hope 2014 will be a year […]
Hey Friends! This is Abby. I had grand plans of writing an update the past few months. But then summer happened. And summer is chaotic and fun and crazy all at the same time. AND, our website wasn’t cooperating with us so every time I tried to download pics it just froze. And who wants to read a blog post without pics?!?! Enough excuses, let’s get started! Our family has a goal to live in Haiti 4-8 weeks every summer(since Denny has summers off, […]
-From Carl and Sigi It’s been a hard week for us. Sunday we began saying our goodbyes, we had a goodbye party and by around 7pm I was already emotionally exhausted. Monday we said goodbye to the children. The little ones didn’t quite understand what all the fuss was about, but the older girls and I had us a good cry. Some of the little ones asked if we could take them with us to Israel and the older ones kept asking when we’d […]
An update from Carl and Sigi: As the end of our time in Haiti comes to a close, we want to share with you a quick update regarding the ongoing Orphanage Maintenance Projects. *PATIO – COMPLETED* The patio in front of the orphanage was completed in the middle of March. It has transformed the area for the kids, providing them with a large, enclosed flat space to sit, play, and enjoy in any way they please. It has also […]
Before I left for Haiti, Abby got a hold of some friends here in Fort Collins and asked if they’d be willing to donate some eggs so I could do an egg hunt for the kids in Haiti. So many generous families responded and filled tons and tons of eggs for the kids! It was super confusing trying to explain to the kids what an egg hunt is, but with Sigi’s mastery of Creole, the kids understood and watching them search, run, find and open […]
I did not expect, prior to coming to Haiti, that I would spend so much time thinking and reflecting on what it means to be a father. Yet, I have done exactly that. After almost four months in Pignon, Sigi and I have become parents to the children here and they have become our children. It’s difficult to say when exactly I started feeling like a father here, but I definitely feel like one and this has caused a great amount of reflection. In particular, […]
(I’m having trouble with the website posting pics and writing captions so I’m gonna write everything up here and hopefully you can follow along.-Abby) Denny said Easter was “amazing.” Everyone got up at 3:30 a.m. Easter morning and headed to a church with 7-8 other church bodies. They met from 4-7 a.m. and had communion. Then all the churches met outside to walk around the city together in two lines praying and singing praise songs. After that they had a church service back at Pastor’s […]
