Mission
Mission
To work alongside local Haitians in providing the community of Pignon, Haiti with hope, health and wholeness through physical, emotional, spiritual and financial support. And to empower the community to a sustainable, independent lifestyle through training and micro development.
We operate from the model of Relief, Rehabilitation, and Development.
(Found in the book, When Helping Hurts: How to Alleviate Poverty without Hurting the Poor…and Yourself
Relief:
-Taking care of immediate and necessary needs.
-Most resources come from the outside.
-Lead primarily by outsiders
-Long term relief can lead to dependency, must be temporary.
Rehabilitation:
-Recovery process, restoring local communities.
-Longer stage than relief, but also is temporary.
-Combination of local and outside resources
-Outsiders and local people partner together and work alongside each other toward recovery.
-Rehabilitation helps to foster the local people with the ability to meet their own needs.
Development:
-Must partner with local people and local resources.
-Through proper training and teaching, local people are empowered to achieve their own development with minimal guidance from outside.
-Development helps to foster independence and sustainability among the local community.
