I volunteered at Jennifer Cambells Children’s Home: Home of Hope. There was a 10 day old baby girl—Liva which means ‘life’ in English. The baby’s parents brought this infant to Bill and Jennifer. They hadn’t named the baby yet because they didn’t think it would survive. But once Bill and Jennifer agreed to keeping the baby to nurse it to health then they decided on the name Liva. Jennifer said the baby doesn’t have a good […]

(Written by Lynn) Every other Saturday the widows are invited to the Church for food distribution. Pastor Francois instigated the program because, as he likes to remind us, the Bible says, “Pure religion and undefiled is this, to care for the fatherless and widows in their affliction.” The widows arrive early, asking if there will be food today, even though they know it won’t begin until after noon. Sometimes Pastor doesn’t know for sure until […]

(Ecuze’ this posting is tardy, but “We are in Haiti, Yes?”) Pastor Francois woke us at 3am this morning because when Haitians do an Easter Sunrise service, they do the service first, then greet the sunrise! I discovered a HUGE advantage to 3am in Haiti – it’s cool outside! There was an almost full moon as Pastor, Mark and I left the compound. Music filled the air from every direction it seemed: singing, organ, drums. […]

First off, how awesome has it been to read such amazing posts from Lynn, Esther, Denny and my Dad over the past few months?! Some amazing work is going on over there in Pignon, Haiti. Thank you for supporting the work and thank you for supporting the “hands and feet” who are over there now. Secondly, my dad(Mark Bell) arrived safely back to Oregon! Thirdly, the solar panels should be officially installed this […]

Haiti is horn happy. There’s a honk for everything. One honk if you want to pass by. One honk to warn others you are coming around a corner. There is another honk to see if anyone is coming around the corner. A series of 3 honks for when there are people or livestock on the road. Driving is just as complex. The roads are horrible—some of the worst I’ve ever seen. There are large potholes, […]

I have so many experiences I want to share with you…and I’ve started on writing a dozen of them. But something happened today that I need to tell you about. Sista Este’ (Esther) and I were out under the trees, showing the kids how to braid bracelets and I noticed Pastor sitting and talking with two women. After a long conversation he called me over, “Please, Gramma Lynn, what do you think? She wants to live with us.” […]

DAY 5 Good Friday I’ve told you about the background of praise we’ve been going to sleep to each night. Pastor invited us to join them tonight for service. The church is white-washed stone like everything else in the Philadelphia compound. Simple wooden benches, seating for perhaps 300, also white-washed. Simple podium. Raised platform in front for choir. No decorations, pictures, crosses, stained glass, tapestries or banners. Only a bouquet of flowers on a […]
