Elementary Kids Loving Haiti
A few months ago I was given the opportunity to share about Loving Haiti with Betsy’s 1st grade class as well as the other two 1st grade classes at her school. The first graders were in a unit called “Inspirational People” and were learning about all sorts of ways people get inspired to act and inspire others.
The presentation lasted 30 minutes and the students were amazingly attentive and seemed to really grasp what Loving Haiti is all about.
Immediately after the presentation a few of the kids ran up to me saying they wanted to give their money, toys and clothes to the kids in Haiti. It was beautiful. I gave them hugs and thanked them for their kind hearts but didn’t really expect much to come from it. I was just so blessed to be able to share Loving Haiti with the awesome students.
Well, the following week Betsy’s teacher said the kids were really inspired by Loving Haiti and wanted to do a school-wide fundraiser for Loving Haiti!
Over the next month, the students gave money, toys and books.
(The sweet boys pictured above go to Dunn Elementary and took fundraising into their own hands by walking around their neighborhood with that jar asking neighbors if they could give money to help the kids in Haiti.)
At the end of the month Dunn Elementary Students gave $139.85 to Loving Haiti. (As well as tons of toys and books!)
We are so grateful for these sweet students, awesome teachers, and their kind hearts.
One of our greatest joys is seeing our local community making connections with and building relationships with the community in Haiti.
Thank you, Dunn Elementary!!!
