Summer in Haiti

It’s that time again…

Time to go to Haiti!

We are so grateful for Denny’s work schedule as a high school teacher that allows our family to travel to Haiti during the summer.

This summer is a summer of firsts! The first time our youngest daughter Audrey will be coming with us, the first time our awesome friends will be coming, the first time a group of girls from Colorado State University will be coming, and the first time we will have grandparents with us for our ENTIRE stay!

So what’s our plan?!

We leave for Haiti June 29th and head back to the States on July 31st.

During the span of our trip, Mark and Jill Bell, Lynn Bain, The Everitt Family and 7 Awesome college-aged girls will be coming. We plan to simply love on the kids and the community the best we can. We will attempt to partner with the local church and throw the town kids a VBS, take the kids on field trips,  help at feeding clinics, throw birthday parties, have movie nights, play soccer, build bunk beds, play cards, jump rope and love those around us.

We will also be assessing needs, finishing projects, and learning how to best partner with Pastor Francois, Madam, and the local Haitians in terms of relief, rehabilitation and development.

You might have already heard but the people of Haiti have been hit pretty hard with a mosquito-borne virus over the past month. It’s called the Chikungunya virus. We’ve been sending boxes of meds to help with the symptoms but is has definitely hit the country hard. The small community in which we work has a few other orphanages with groups from the States that visit during the summer. However, due to unique circumstances for each group, there will be no groups from the States coming besides us this summer, so we are EVEN more excited to come bring some joy and love to the community!

Oh yeah, we have some great news…Loving Haiti has officially obtained 501c3 status! (This has been 3 years in the making. We are thrilled!)

And still more great news,  students at Hinkley High School in Aurora, CO , (the school in Denny taught at a few years ago) just raised $3,300 for Loving Haiti!

Thanks for taking the time to read this quick update. We are planning to blog while were in Haiti so stay tuned if you’d like to stay connected.

Orevwa,

Bain Family
