2 more market trips!

Hey Soul? Today, Smile & Enjoy! You only have [one last] Friday! Seize moments today: laugh with somebody, pause & watch the sky, tell one person she is beautiful, run across grass & feel your heart beat, find a way to ‪#‎betheGIFT‬ to someone, say the words out loud: I love you. “Make the most of every chance you get.” Eph.5:15 MSG This FB post from One Thousand Gifts resonates deeply today, our last Friday here with these beautiful people. Pastor told us a few minutes ago at lunch, “I […]

Two Mommies Say Goodbye/Musings/Market Trip

Monday: This morning, Pastor Francois left with 3 little girls and Som (the resident mechanic of the kids–he often accompanies Pastor on longer trips to help fix the car if something happens) to go to Cap Haitien. His wife is flying to Cap tomorrow from Florida, so Pastor is combining his trip to pick her up with a trip to the doctor for the 3 girls. Many of the children here have “boutons”, boil-type sores on their bodies, and we wanted to get the girls checked out, tested, […]

Widows + Young Men

There is much beauty here in Pignon, especially at the Loving Haiti compound. Here is some of the foliage that Pastor is growing on his grounds; he loves plants and flowers, and he adds to them as he is able. It’s great for the kids to see the beauty of nature around them. And this is our view at the end our balcony–an incredibly gorgeous tree in full bloom. And, of course, the kids are the real beauties–here are Michelda and Naika, and Som helping Naika […]

4th of July

We woke up to kids working hard at 7 a.m. Jerry and a few other boys continued to help the masons who are laying some cement for Pastor, girls were sweeping the dirt path clear of debris while others helped prepare food, and still others were getting ready for the washer women to come. The kids understand that we are taking some of them to the market each day. They are all clamoring to go, and we are trying to convince them that they will all get a chance […]

World Cup/Feeding Clinic/Market Trip

Tuesday: The kids huddled around the 8” screen watching a movie while we watch the USA/Belgium soccer game. Taking advantage of the electricity!   Something as simple as cards keeps them entertained for quite a while. To the left is “ti” Moses, the one who just came a week or two ago because his pregnant mom was unfortunately unable to take care of both him and a new baby.   The kids love looking through all the photos on my phone. They especially enjoyed watching […]

Day # 1 & 2

Hey, this is Abby! Plans changed quite a bit for our family this summer due to some health issues I’m dealing with. We were supposed to be arriving in Haiti a few days ago, alongside my parents, but Denny and I agreed it’d be best if I stay home this summer to promote healing. This was a very difficult decision as this means our girls will  also stay home.  They are super bummed, as are […]

Summer in Haiti

It’s that time again… Time to go to Haiti! We are so grateful for Denny’s work schedule as a high school teacher that allows our family to travel to Haiti during the summer. This summer is a summer of firsts! The first time our youngest daughter Audrey will be coming with us, the first time our awesome friends will be coming, the first time a group of girls from Colorado State University will be coming, and the […]

Elementary Kids Loving Haiti

A few months ago I was given the opportunity to share about Loving Haiti with Betsy’s 1st grade class as well as the other two 1st grade classes at her school. The first graders were in a unit called “Inspirational People” and were learning about all sorts of ways people get inspired to act and inspire others. The presentation lasted 30 minutes and the students were amazingly […]

We Are Really Making A Difference For These Children! (By Lynn)

(Lynn’s wrap up post from her visit) I’ve written a lot about the heart-wrenching, emotionally-charged situations I’ve experienced in Pignon—now I want to share updates on positive changes that have occurred at the Children’s home and in Haiti in general.  I am SO thankful that I was able to visit again with the timoun and Pastor and Madam – the vast differences between now and when I first visited with Esther 2 years ago are amazing! […]
